cut off

I've been at work for 24 of the last 48 hours, and asleep for about 18 of the remaining 24. I haven't used the cellphone or internets for just as long. Imagine my surprise when I went to check those messages and found the bugphone out of commission. Seems Sprint hasn't received my payment. Funny. I paid online, on Tuesday, and they debited the cashola from my account just fine and dandy at the time. Of course, they decide to tell me this at 10pm on Saturday night, insuring that I cannot make any amends (if need be), or yell at the poor sod who flubbed up my account, until Monday at 9am eastern time.
Curses, curses, foiled by modern technology once again. I knew that signing up to pay over the internets was foolhardy, but the convenience factor was too tempting to pass up. Well, I have learned my lesson, I'm sticking with good old-fashioned paper checks and stamped envelopes from now on. Daddy will be so proud.

feeling better

I went to the doctor today. I've been really tired and slightly nauseous lately. I know that these are symptoms of pregnancy, but I wanted a professional opinion. I got one. I am fine. I am just pregnant.
So here's the verdict. Everything is fine. I have actually lost weight since my last visit, which happens, and I heard the fetus' heartbeat today. It was strange. Being pregnant is strange.
Matt and I then met Joe for lunch at Duff's (see link in sidebar). I ate the vegetable pot pie, which all of you should go and get right away.
I am going to attempt a short nap, then run to Kinko's before work.
Sorry the blog has been boring, sick knocked-up girls have no adventures.

Matt's box from Germany has arrived!

And it was full of yarn! Beautiful German sock yarn, all for me me me! (Yes I know that Lana Grossa Yarn comes from Italy, but Matt bought this yarn in Germany, therefore it is German. I tend to prefer all things Italian, so I don't mind. My husband went to multiple yarn stores for me while vacationing in Europe. I'm not gonna complain about which country the yarn was made in. Would you?)
I plan to use the red and yellow (see below) with some black that I already have to make Matt a pair of German Flag socks, to commemorate this trip for him.
My husband is the best. I totally forgive him for staying out all night on Saturday.
He said he bought this one (above) because the label says "mega boots stretch," which he thought was just about the funniest phrase he'd heard in a while.
I love all the self-patterning and self-striping varieties, I could collect self-patterning sock yarn for the rest of my life and never get bored with it. And it is all such soft superwash goodness! I'm probably going to cast on a pair of socks tonight after derby practice, even though I should be working on the costumes for the Floyd Awards instead, but I can't wait! So what should I do with all of this yarn? Socks, gloves, wrist warmers, baby socks, tail warmers for the cats? The possibilities are endless!

Matt's back.

My charming husband has returned from abroad. His jaunt to Ireland and Germany was fulfilling, in many ways, for both of us. He got to see his friend Colum, to visit the town his father's family is from, to drink beer at the biggest beer festival in the world, and to get wasted in Dublin and break his glasses. (it's not a real party til the specs get broke!)
I got some time by myself, time to spend with Jill after her triumphant return, and a stash of German sock yarn! Yay!
I realize exactly how lucky I am to have a husband who not only remembers that he has a pregnant, knitting wife at home, but braves the wild unknown territory of the German yarn shops to bring her gifts.
He shipped a box of yarn home (A BOX!) and it has not arrived yet, but I know it is coming. He brought on skein of soft soft burgundy wool with him, as a tease for me until the box (A BOX!) gets here.
When it arrives, I will post pictures. I love my Mattie. And not just cause he goes to German yarn stores for me. Just because he's Mattie. And because when he saw the camouflage diaper bag that my sister bought for him, he said, "This looks like a cool 'just a guy bag' that I would totally carry anyway."

Avast ye scalawags! Swab that poop deck on the double or I'll have you walkin' thar plank!

Happy "talk like a pirate day" everybody. This is the closest I've come to a self-portrait Tuesday in a while, but it is not quite perfect. this is a portrait of me, but it is not a self-portrait, and it was not taken today. I apologize for falling out of the loop on this part of my blog and I will make an honest effort to get things organized and back on track from now on.
I feel like myself today, as opposed to the last few weeks when I felt mostly like a big, exhausted, queasy lump. I have now entered my second trimester, so maybe this is the big plateau of happiness everyone has been yacking about.
I promise knitting posts soon, keep yer trousers on ye land lubbers!

Because I saw it on April's blog

and I had to do it too.

Which Firefly character are you?

You are Kaylee, the ship's mechanic. You are cute as a button, chipper, cheerfull and optimistic, though you panic in a fight. Engines make you hot and you prefer having sex next to a big, humming thing.

Surprise for Breakfast!

I went to First Watch this morning with Jill and the boys expecting to meet my mom and Julie. We had planned to get together for coffee at our usual spot, but decided to try something new. When we walked in the door, I was shocked to see Annie sitting at the table with Mom and Julie! Surprise! My sister, the sneak, flew in for the bout! I was so happy I cried. I'm blaming it on the hormones. Toni and Sara Jane came too so we turned it into a huge breakfast party.
I had the eggs florentine, of course.
I know this bout is going to be great, we have a surprise half-time show, the awesome jeerleaders will make their debut, and the rollergirls themselves will put on an awesome show! Okay, I can maybe get a twenty minute nap in before I have to go to work. I need it, I ran all over the county today taking care of last minute paperwork.

I can't shake the butterflies

I got like this in July, just before our friends and family bout. I was walking on eggshells all week, jumpy, nervous, thinking I'd forgotten something or misplaced something. I know it's just nerves. I know the bout will be fine. We've worked really hard to pull this all together. Sid Stitches and Dee Rinkin are coming over tonight to work out the announcing and penalty mistress stuff. Dee is gonna cook for us, and I am gonna find her something appropriate to wear.
I'm worried I'll forget to put on pants on Sunday or something stupid like that.

Monday morning.

Kate stopped in last night as she was passing through town to pick up Nu. She's driving back to New Orleans today. We ate at Mangia, looked at pictures of her recent trip to Thailand. She brought back images of monkeys, mopeds and meals. The alien fruits and little girls chopping vegetables on the sidewalk, the brightly colored minibuses and blue water beaches invaded my dreams last night. I was lost in a market, swimming in the ocean, fixing a kickstart with a shoelace. I dreamt Kate approached with a basket of pink fuzzy melons and acorn-shaped citrus, offering them in exchange for Nu. "It's alright. She'll be fine with me. I can take her now." she explained. I couldn't speak, my mouth wasn't working. She left the basket at my feet, put Nu's leash and collar on and walked away. I woke up confused. Nu belongs with Kate. Nu is Kate's dog, but I have grown accustomed to her comforting presence and will miss her company.

Preparation for abandonment

Matt's going to Ireland and Germany for three weeks and leaving me here all alone.
Well, not entirely alone. Everyone in the city will still be here with me, but I will still be lonely.
The fabulous Dee Rinkin' has offered to stuff me with her amazing southern cooking, and my mom said she'd go to some of my doctor's appointments with me. Toni and the kids will be back soon from Hawaii, and they always keep me company. Jill and the boys are returning from MD too. Wow, actually I'll have tons of people to hang out with.
So if you see me about and I look a bit droopy, smack me or something.
